景気という言葉は、古くは「方丈記」に出てくるもので、「空気の景色」という意味だそうです。そこで、economic environment （経済環境）を使って、"Howﾕs your economic environment?" "So-so!" （景気はどうですか？ まあまあです）という会話も成り立ちます。一般的には、business とか the business situation を使って、"How's business?" （景気はどうですか？） "Business is picking up." （上向いています）"The business situation is slowing down." （景気は下向きです）など。「このニュースは景気にプラス（マイナス）になる」というのは、"This news is a positive（negative） for the economy." となります。プラスの材料は、"We have developed a new product." 「当社は新製品を開発しました」、マイナスは "Cell phone sales are not well." 「携帯電話の売り上げがよくありません」
